Brookies?
“Brookie” is slang for Brook Trout
When Chris and his friends head into the Boundary Waters they aim to catch the elusive “Brookie”.
Brook trout are native to a wide area of Northeastern North America. Brook trout inhabit lakes, rivers, streams, creeks, and spring ponds. They prefer clear water with high purity and a narrow PH range. Brook trout are very sensitive to poor oxygenation, pollution and changes in PH levels caused by environmental effects.
There is no wild commercial season for brook trout and commercial farmed fisheries typically do not raise them because they do not grow as fast as other types of fish. This is because of brook trout’s dependence on pure natural water and the presence of a variety of aquatic insect life.
Brookies Fish Market will likely never sell brook trout due to their fragile nature. But we have a great deal of respect for their true relationship with the wild and the beauty of their elusive character. So, if you want to try this amazing fish that is "sweet as candy", you have to go out and try your luck at catching one. It’s a truly beautiful experience.
